About BPC 157
BPC-157 is a synthetic pentadecapeptide composed of 15 amino acids, derived from a protein found naturally in human gastric juice. Since its discovery in 1993, BPC-157 has garnered significant interest in preclinical research for its notable tissue-repair and anti-inflammatory properties. Its mechanisms involve promoting angiogenesis, stimulating collagen synthesis, modulating the nitric oxide system, and reducing inflammatory cytokines—all of which contribute to the healing of muscle, tendon, ligament, bone, and gastrointestinal tissues. Despite promising results in animal models, BPC-157 is not approved for human therapeutic use by any global regulatory agency, including the FDA or TGA. Recently, an FDA advisory committee voted to recommend removing BPC-157 from the restricted compounding list for treating ulcerative colitis, though its clinical validation remains in early stages.
Main functions
1.Promotes Soft Tissue Healing: In various animal models, BPC-157 has shown significantly improved functional, structural, and biomechanical outcomes in muscle, tendon, and ligament injuries.
2.Accelerates Bone Repair: Demonstrates osteogenic effects in rabbit models of bone defects, promoting fracture healing.
3.Gastrointestinal Protection: As a gastric-derived peptide, it has shown protective effects against acute and chronic injuries to the esophagus, stomach, duodenum, and colon in animal studies.
4.Short-Term Analgesic Effect: Observed to have transient antinociceptive effects in animal pain models, potentially through anti-inflammatory mechanisms rather than central actions.
5.Anti-inflammatory and Angiogenic: Supports regeneration by reducing inflammatory cytokines, upregulating VEGFR2 expression, and improving microvascular integrity.
Recommended audience
Athletes and fitness enthusiasts seeking to accelerate recovery from muscle, tendon, or ligament injuries (with awareness of its banned and illegal status in many contexts).
