5-Amino-1MQ is a small molecule compound, not a peptide. Its target is nicotinamide N-methyltransferase (NNMT)—an enzyme overexpressed in fat tissue, liver, and muscle in obese and diabetic states. By inhibiting NNMT, 5-Amino-1MQ spares both nicotinamide (a B3 vitamer used to build NAD+) and SAM (a critical methyl donor). In animal models, this shift has been linked to improved metabolism, reduced fat mass, and better muscle function.
