- "1.Improves MASH and Related Liver Disease: In a 10-week human study, MASH patients receiving 2g/day oral L-carnitine showed significant improvements in serum ALT, AST, and GGT, along with improved liver inflammation and NAFLD activity scores. In MASH mouse models, long-term L-carnitine administration significantly improved steatosis, inflammation, and fibrosis, and reduced liver tumor incidence.
- 2.Cardioprotection and Cardiac Function Improvement: In ischemic heart disease patients, L-carnitine reduces myocardial lactate production, increases free fatty acid extraction, and improves exercise tolerance and angina symptoms. It reduces CK-MB release in MI patients and exerts positive inotropic effects in patients with impaired left ventricular function.
- 3.Treats Carnitine Deficiency: In patients with primary systemic carnitine deficiency, supplementation of up to 4g/day reverses severe muscular weakness, hypoglycemia, and intellectual retardation—can be life-saving in severe cases. Clear benefits are also seen in secondary deficiencies (organic acidurias, prolonged parenteral nutrition, chronic hemodialysis).
- 4.Improves Functional Status in Older Adults: An RCT in pre-frail older adults showed that 500mg/day L-carnitine for 10 weeks significantly improved handgrip strength and frailty index scores compared to placebo. However, a 24-week study in healthy women aged 65-70 (1500mg/day) found no significant changes in muscle strength or body composition.
- 5.Promotes Weight Loss and Improves Lipids: In obese women with knee osteoarthritis, 12 weeks of 1000mg/day L-carnitine combined with a low-calorie diet significantly improved BMI, with significant within-group reductions in total cholesterol and malondialdehyde.
- 6.Reduces Chemotherapy-Related Cardiotoxicity: Preliminary studies suggest L-carnitine may attenuate cardiotoxicity from anthracycline therapy (cumulative doses 500 mg/m²).
- 7.Treats Valproic Acid Toxicity: L-carnitine is used as an antidote for valproic acid-induced hyperammonemia and hepatotoxicity, with a recommended IV loading dose of 5 mg/kg followed by continuous infusion."
