Thymosin beta-4 is a 43-amino acid peptide found in nearly all mammalian cells and plays important roles in tissue repair, anti-inflammation, and angiogenesis. TB-500 attempts to replicate selected biological activities of Tβ4, but it is not FDA‑approved for human use. The FDA classifies TB‑500 as a Category 2 bulk drug substance (substance of safety concern), and its manufacturing lacks regulatory oversight, raising concerns about purity and contamination. Currently, TB-500 remains an experimental compound; for example, a Phase 1/2 clinical trial is ongoing to evaluate its safety and tolerability in adults with stable atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD).
