Snap-8 (INCI: Acetyl Octapeptide-3) is a synthetic octapeptide (sequence: Ac-Glu-Glu-Met-Gln-Arg-Arg-Ala-Asp-NH₂), categorized as a "Botox-like" peptide. It is a structural upgrade of the well-known acetyl hexapeptide-3/8 (Argireline), with the addition of two amino acids to the N-terminus aimed at achieving superior anti-wrinkle efficacy. As a functional cosmetic ingredient, its mechanism involves mimicking the N-terminal end of the SNAP-25 protein. By competing with SNAP-25 for a position in the SNARE complex, it inhibits neurotransmitter release, thereby reducing muscle contractions responsible for dynamic facial wrinkles.
